Garnet Sand
This sand was collected in a creek in North Carolina on a club field trip. The garnets in the sand are fractured and not very smooth, so attendees knew that the rocks they came from must be close by. They found rocks with big, fractured garnets in them, indicated the rocks had been under a lot of pressure. So, they learned something about the geology of the area by starting with the sand!
