Stromatolite from Georgia
Stromatolites are layered sedimentary formations that are made by cyanobacteria, a type of bacteria that uses photosynthesis. This is a view of a stromatolite sample that has been cut to reveal the layers as well as the beautiful colors of the specimen. Below is a picture of the specimen the day it was found on a club field trip. Later, it was determined to be the first time stromatolite was recorded in that county.
